Software Development Engineer Intern, Amazon Leo - Summer 2027Location: Redmond, WA, USAResponsibilities:Collaborate with experienced engineers across disciplines to design, build, and operate innovative products and services.Participate in technical discussions and contribute to engineering solutions.Break down complex and ambiguous problems into well-defined, solvable components.Contribute to the design and development of scalable and reliable services.Participate in code reviews, including reviewing and validating AI-generated code.Write clear and accurate technical documentation.Use generative AI and AI-powered development tools to improve productivity.Critically evaluate, verify, and integrate AI-generated code.Write clean, maintainable code using established best practices and design patterns.Work in an agile development environment using continuous integration and continuous delivery principles.Participate in operational responsibilities, including on-call duties where applicable.Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues.Take ownership of projects from design through deployment and ongoing operation.Work with a manager and mentor while contributing to meaningful technical projects.Participate in professional development, networking, and activities with other Amazon interns.Qualifications:Must be at least 18 years old.Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM field.Experience with at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.Experience with data structures, basic algorithm development, and/or object-oriented design principles.Experience using AI-assisted development tools in an academic or professional setting.Ability to work 40 hours per week during the internship.Ability to commit to a maximum 12-week internship.Expected degree conferral date between October 2027 and September 2029.Must have at least one quarter, semester, or trimester remaining in the degree program after the internship concludes.Preferred:Previous technical internship experience or demonstrated technical project experience.Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.Experience with SQL or NoSQL database systems.Experience using AI tools to improve development productivity.Contributions to open-source projects.Experience with version control systems.Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, building, deployment, and associated timelines.Strong problem decomposition, problem-solving, and analytical skills.Demonstrated ownership and initiative from design through operation.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies.Specialized Areas:During the application process, candidates can highlight expertise or interest in one or more of the following areas:Machine LearningDistributed Systems and Data ManagementDatabase SystemsQuantum ComputingNetwork DevelopmentQuery Processing and OptimizationAutomated ReasoningEmbedded SystemsData EngineeringMobile DevelopmentGame DevelopmentBenefits and Compensation:Starting annualized pay listed for Redmond, WA: $109,395.Full-time internship schedule of up to 40 hours per week.Medical advice line.Employee Assistance Program (EAP).Mental health support.401(k) matching starting on the first day of employment.Mentorship from experienced Amazon employees.Professional development and networking opportunities.Opportunity to work on real-world projects with global-scale impact.Internship Schedule:Primary season: Summer 2027.Duration: 12 weeks.Expected Summer 2027 period: May/June through August/September.Additional potential seasons:Winter 2027: January/February through April/May.Fall 2027: August/September through November/December.Non-summer placement is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.Interns are expected to work in the office Monday through Friday, typically between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with specific team schedules determined by the manager.Interns should not have classes or other employment conflicts during Amazon's working hours.Location Information:The position is associated with Redmond, Washington.
